Dental Veneers
A dental veneer is a protective or ornamental facing frequently termed a laminate veneer. It is a thin layer of tooth colored material that is applied to the outer surface of teeth for esthetically restoring localised or generalised defects, or intrinsic discolourations.
These include brownish/black/yellow discolorations of teeth, the presence of gaps between individual teeth, pitting due to cavities or fluorosis, and fractured/chipped teeth.
Veneering can be done by two methods- ceramic-based indirect veneering or composite-based direct veneering.
Ceramic veneering requires preparation/removal of a layer of enamel covering to make space for the material before placement, which usually requires a couple of sittings. These can be made of either feldspathic porcelain or pressable ceramics. These are glasses with high translucency and significant aesthetic quality, enabling them to mimic the surrounding teeth.
Whereas, composite veneering is a chairside tool which utilises a resin-based matrix that is applied over the teeth after minimal preparation, which is cured and polished in the same sitting.
Latest advancements include ‘LUMINEERS, these are one of the thinnest veneering materials, as thin as a contact lens! These can be placed over the teeth without any removal of tooth enamel and display high strength to prevent breakage. This is a single-sitting procedure which is reversible.
Veneering is a highly predictable procedure which is an integral part of smile designing. The results can last up to 20 years or more if they are maintained well via proper brushing and flossing.

What are Buck Teeth?
Buck teeth, also known as protruding or overgrown teeth, refer to upper front teeth that extend too far forward, creating an overbite. This condition can affect both children and adults. It can be caused by several factors, such as genetics, thumb-sucking in childhood, or abnormal jaw growth.
The impact of Buck Teeth?
Buck teeth can affect both your oral health and self-confidence. Here are some common problems that people with buck teeth might face:
- Aesthetic Concerns: The appearance of buck teeth can make you feel self-conscious and lower your self-esteem.
- Speech Difficulties: It may be hard to pronounce certain words clearly because of the position of your upper front teeth.
- Increased Risk of Injury: Protruding teeth are more likely to get injured, especially during sports or accidents.
- Oral Health Issues: Misaligned teeth can make brushing and flossing harder, leading to an increased risk of cavities, gum disease, and other dental problems.
